Spanish Translation

Spanish Translation - countries where Spanish is SpokenAccording to a recent study, there are approximately 438 million native Spanish speakers globally (first language), placing Spanish behind Mandarin Chinese and ahead of English.

As expected the numbers for internet users are slightly different. A recent study conducted by Internet World Stats suggest that 130,775,144 (8.2%) of internet users speak Spanish, placing Spanish behind both English and Chinese. In terms of growth between 2000 and 2008, Spanish was fifth behind Arabic (+1,545.2%), Russian (+1,125.8%), Chinese (+894.8%), and Portuguese (+857.7%).

Clearly the above numbers suggest that having Spanish translations of Websites, Manuals, and Marketing materials are a vital factor for any organization wanting to penetrate the global market. When requiring a Spanish translation, identifying the target market/target audience is key. Spanish has two main dialects, European Spanish (sometimes referred to as Peninsular Spanish) and Latin-American Spanish.

Within these two main dialects there are several variants such as Andalusian Spanish, Canarian Spanish, Castilian Spanish and Marcian Spanish (within Spain), and North American Spanish, Central American Spanish, Caribbean Spanish, South American Spanish (within the Americas). These are just a few of the many Spanish dialects.

Which Spanish form to use for your Spanish Translation

Technical or Industry Specific Translations

For highly technical documents such as Medical, Legal, and Financial, Journals and Reports, a fairly strict industry and a specific form of Spanish is adopted, each industry having its own jargon and nuances. Although not a requirement, yet, we recommend that Spanish translations for these types of documents should be translated by an expert within the industry and field as we call "Specialized Translator" (current or ex-industry professional).

Website and Marketing Translations

Any Website or Marketing material requiring a Spanish translation should be translated by a Spanish Translator living or very familiar with the target market. For example, if you have a Website targeting Spain and its audience, the Spanish community in the US, and the Mexican community will most likely opt to have different versions of the Spanish Translations.
